HOME country is an artistic research project that navigates the intersection of personal memory and broader narratives of history across Germany and Australia.
This is a work in progress that will culminate in a multiple-channel sensory installation.
The project maps individual connections and private responsibilities onto the land, whilst exploring the interplay of guilt and memory towards devising visible and invisible histories.
The project was initiated in Germany in 2013 filming hybrid/documentary footage.

A slow-burning study of the moment of a kiss, bodies enter the frame when desire can no longer be contained and borders are to be transgressed.
Filmed at illustrious ‘kissing parties’ with the artist’s lovers and friends, Sexual Chemistry documents her queer community constantly in a state of becoming as new film is added to each reel, whilst simultaneously in a state of being undone as fresh chemical processing threatens to wipe the archive away. The ongoing project is a celebration of film material as the alchemical reactions between light, silver, flesh and skin bubble away, contracting and expanding with radical potential.
The two-channel installation has shown on loop at Installations MIXfest NY (2013) and as a live performance DIFFRAKTION (2014) and the Directors Lounge in Berlin (2013).
Letters 2-6 is a video letter installation series composed for and created in collaboration with Sam Icklow. The project was commissioned for Art and About - Laneways Festival, 2011, Sydney and was installed across multiple screens. Recent installations include READING #4, Berlin 2013.
Over the course of 3 months Imogen Heath and Sam Icklow prepared video letters for each other concerning their feelings about home, lonliness, nostalgia. The videos situate their collaborative process in the context of their separation from one another, their distance from their home country Australia and their feelings of estrangement in the place they now call home, Germany.
This video is comprised of footage exposed and hand-developed by the artist, home-movies and material from previous collaborative work with Sam Icklow as the collective nowMomentnow.
The hybrid work ‘Bound' is a live audio performance of quotes from anonymous sources about notions of home. A digital loop from the artists personal collection of home-movie style footage capturing moments of close relationships accompanies the live soundscape.
Performed at READING, Berlin in June, 2013.
